CRITICAL PEDAGOGY vignette: food, culture, & identity

Project Kurumutu

In a land diverse as ours, we have multiple cultures and communities that have their identities linked with their cultural practices linked with food. It not only makes up for a nutritional requirement, but food habits are also inherently linked with identities and makeup histories of people and their communities. This interesting conversation between a teacher and two students navigates what students face when their food is ridiculed. Food for these students makes them who they are and how they distinguish themselves with pride. Conversations like these give us an important insight into the lives of many that we do not get a chance to explore and listen to!
